I was pleasantly surprised by this red table wine. I'm a big fan of other soft red wines such as St. Chappelle's Soft Red and Menage A Trois' Red. I use the word "approachable" to describe these kinds of red wines. I think they're ideal for people who aren't serious red wine drinkers and I always recommend them to people who want to try a red wine. I'll also be recommending this Payette River Red from now on too.
The Seventh Son Payette River Red is dry, soft and full-bodied with a nice blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling, a combination of grapes that I don't think I've tasted before. The fruity, slightly sweet taste of the Riesling was the first thing I tasted then came the fuller taste of the Cab. I think this would pair well with a grilled burger or a steak. I'll certainly be getting another bottle when BBQ season rolls around.
Seventh Son Winery also does a Cabernet Sauvignon blend and a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. On the white wine side, they produce an excellent Emerald White that I especially enjoy.
It's nice to have a winery that's local and I think good things are ahead for Seventh Son.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a winner. I am usually wary of the 'softs', but the Cab over Reisling is intriguing and I'll give it a go.
I have enjoyed (repeatedly) 7th Son's Cabernet Sauvignon and Sarah-Cab and really enjoy the full body they carry. There's joy to be found on the slopes of New Plymouth, Idaho!

I stumbled upon Seventh Son Vineyard's wines a couple of years ago and feel they are the best kept secret east of the Willamette Valley! Pure, rich and generous in spirit. I'd put their wines up against those of any Oregon Vineyard.

Where locally can I find the Seventh Son Wines? I tried the liquor store in Payette, also Red Apple.
