Our server, Tina, was fantastic and she let us occupy a booth by the door for as long as we needed to finish up some lunchtime computer work. If I lived in Salem, the Sassy Onion would definitely be on my list of lunch time favorites.

The Sassy Onion Grill
While I'm on the subject of lunch time "hot spots" I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Sassy Onion Grill. Located conveniently close to all the state offices, the Sassy Onion does a brisk lunch time trade and was pleasantly hectic when I stopped by for lunch on Monday and Tuesday. The service was fast, the food came out even faster and the prices are hard to argue with for such great food. On Monday, I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich but it wasn't just your run of the mill grilled cheese. Instead of ham, it featured thinly sliced prosciutto and three different cheeses, all toasted to perfection on buttery but crusty thick-sliced bread. On Tuesday I had the grilled chicken breast sandwich with a cup of fantastic potato and bacon chowder. Although the Sassy Onion boasts it's the "Home of the World Famous French Toast" I can't personally vouch for that claim, since I didn't try it but the ladies sitting at the booth behind me did and I could hear their oohs and aahs as their plates arrived piled high with french toast and waffles topped with berries. They immediately asked for to-go containers even before they started to dig into their plates because the portions were huge. If I go back within the next two days I'll definitely have to give the French toast a try.
